First off, thank you all so very much for your thoughts, prayers, and encouraging words as we fought the city council ordinance revision that would have made us have to move our bus. God is good!!! It was in His hands to handle as He saw fit, even if that meant a complete overhaul of our plan, timetable, and finances as they all belong to Him anyway. Our gracious heavenly Father has seen fit to have a split vote amongst our city council members go in favor of letting us keep our bus parked beside our home until January 1st. I am grateful to all the city officials who took time today to hear out our grievance and vote favorably. Even to those who voted against our extension, we understand that their motivation (I choose to believe) is not personal, but motivated by what's in the best interest of their constituents. So thank you, all who serve our great town, for what you do. Also, we thank you for considering how we personally were going to be affected by a policy change that frankly has much bigger implications in mind than our small bus project. I have come to understand (or I choose to believe) that my earlier views, that this was a personal attack on us, was actually targeting other issues in town and we were caught in the fray. So again, thanks from the bottom of our hearts to all those who sent thoughts, prayer, and kind words our way during this stressful situation. God is so good, and we are so undeserving. Blessings. -Brian Please share our post with the links below. Thank you so much! ![]()

The above city ordinance revision has been initiated specifically targeting our school bus conversion in town. When we first bought our bus for conversion we checked with city codes to see what we needed to do to be in compliance. Since the powers that be can’t (though they have tried) make us move the bus under the existing one paragraph parking ordinance, they are working quickly to change the ordinance (with this five page revision) allowing them to force move our bus out of town. It is well known that the our bus is only temporarily parked In the 3 foot deep cut-in beside our home, but that hasn’t stopped the constant harassment we have endured by those, many blocks away, who have been using their socio-political positions to hinder us. I was speaking to my neighbor across the street earlier today, he was very frustrated to hear about the revision... partially because he is sympathetic and supportive of our cause and partially because the new revision affects him directly as well. He’s not happy about the new proposal that would require him to get a permit every time he wanted to park a vehicle or a trailer over 25’ beside his house to do work around his home. This reminded me that the ordinance doesn’t just impact our ability to complete our bus project but all those who live in Cleveland city limits in their rights as well. Please take a moment to read the ordinance and if you find the proposal negatively affects you as well please join me at City Hall on the 23rd in Cleveland at 1 PM speak against it before the vote. Thank you. p.s- We would like to take a minute to thank all the neighbors in our immediate neighborhood. Before Sherry and I bought our bus we went to each of them to ask their opinion and approval of our project. We couldn’t have predicted how enthusiastic and supportive they would be. Thanks to each of you for all the ways you’ve contributed to our family and the Serenity Bus Project in your own special way... we love you. Thank you for your support. If someone had told me before we began this project, how hard it would be, I wouldn't have believed them. So all you people out there that have converted a school bus into a tiny home.... you're off the hook. Post the introduction of a 43 foot yellow monstrosity into our lives, I find myself deeply exhausted every day. It's not the same type of tired as I have felt in the past doing normal projects like mowing the lawn or cleaning out the garage.. it's very different. I find myself on Sunday (the day I take off for myself) recognizing that the week of working every day, laboring on the bus most evenings, and all day bus laboring on Saturdays has left me seriously depleted and sore... and as of yet my body still hasn't fully adjusted to the toll it takes on me physically week in and week out. This blog post is in no way intended to be a sounding board for my whining. Actually quite the opposite. Although my Sundays are spent tallying the bumps, bruises, and sore achy muscles I have most recently accumulated.... It's also the first opportunity I have to reflect on the week's accomplishments. There is something deeply satisfying about a hard weeks work. A sense of accomplishment that sets in as you mentally acknowledge a large project's progression. A twinge of pride when you stop to think "I did that"...... None of that compares, however, to the memories we have been making, doing this Serenity Bus thing as a family. My wife, kids, and I have had moments of deep frustration with the bus and one another at times, but even as the bus sits there beside our house it reminds us of bonding that has taken place as we co-labor. Who would have thought that a 20 year old school bus could do so much to tie our family together? It couldn't have happened at a better time in our lives. Life has a way of grinding you down and stealing your joy. However, 43 feet of yellow steel, glass, and awesomeness has given the Hamons household a renewed sense of adventure.... A zest for life... an excitement for tomorrow. -What will be the catalyst that brings your family closer? -Brian Please share our post with the links below. Thank you so much! About five months ago, my family decided to begin the adventure of a lifetime. At the time, I had been away at a spiritual conference seeking the Lord. You can imagine my surprise when I came home in excitement of what God had done for me, only to have my parents set the family down and tell all four of us children that they were going to sell the house, and were planning on giving up everything we owned to travel in a forty foot long school bus to travel in. Life was sure about to get interesting from there. From then after, the six of us began the grand journey of seeking after a new life in God's plan for us. We began with the house, and quickly sold it to a wonderful couple who allowed us to rent it back from them until our bus has finished being renovated. Then, we found the bus, all caked in grime, gum, and grossness. We even had to take off a bad word or two off from the back wall of our new home. Dad and Gavin then started with the deconstruction, and though we spent a long time taking it all apart, we have finally begun to put our own pieces together to form our new house on wheels. So, in short, we have not chosen the most conventional lifestyle, but then again, my family never has. Though it is extremely interesting trying to answer simple questions like: "Where is your house?" or "What do you do in your free time?" I do realize that life in the Hamons family, however strange, will end up being life changing. -Abigail age 15 P.S.- Please check back often for the newest blog entry from the Hamons family.
